Today’s report on living standards by the Institute for Fiscal Studies confirms that working people are worse off now than they were in 2010. This is set to be the first time since the 1920s that people are worse off at the end of a Parliament than at the start.
We need a recovery that reaches not just the City of London but kitchen tables across Britain.
Labour’s better plan will deliver the rising living standards, because we know that when working people succeed, Britain succeeds.
Labour has a better plan for living standards: supporting working people and making work pay by raising the Minimum Wage to £8 an hour before 2020 and banning exploitative zero-hours contracts, introducing tough and fair immigration controls, freezing energy bills until 2017, and expanding free childcare for working parents to 25 hours a week.
