The announcement that Decathlon, the international sports retailer, will be coming to Crawley to take two floors in the former Body Shop building in Queens Square, as the direct result of intervention by the Labour run Council, is further confirmation that our town Centre Regeneration Programme is working.  This follows hot on the heels of the announcement by Arora group that they will invest significant sums in Crawley, rebuilding the Crawley station and supplying some much needed business space, as well as providing further residential apartments for Town Centre living. They, too, acknowledge that it is the Labour Council’s support and ambitious and visionary plans for the Town centre that were key to their bringing forward their investment at this time.  And we, at the Council, are working with West Sussex, Metrobus and others to bring forward significant improvements to Station Way and the Bus station.  You can see how this could look at: www.regeneratingcrawley.org.uk -; let us know what you think by sending in your comments and suggestions.  We are already getting overwhelming support from residents -; let us know what you think.

And the market is now beginning to grow in its new medium-term Haslett Avenue/Broadway location.  Footfall, which is so important to the success of the market, is growing and we are getting enquiries from additional market traders wishing to come to Crawley.

Work will start in Queens Square in the next few weeks, once our contractor is appointed. We are all looking forward to the exciting outcome of this multi-million pound investment.

Our challenge now, both as a Council, and as a Crawley Community is to build on our new town strengths while moving our Town Centre into the 21st Century.  We think that we are achieving this with our plan as it begins to deliver.  The Tories have no plan, no ideas and no idea for our Town Centre.  Don’t jeopardise this success -; on 5th May only the Labour Council’s vision, ambition and energy can build a better future for Crawley.
