FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Crawley Labour Welcomes Release of Imprisoned Flotilla Activists
And Continues To Support The Freedom Flotilla’s Mission Of Peace.
Crawley, WEST SUSSEX – 11th August, 2018 – Crawley Labour’s Executive welcomes the release and safe return home of Freedom Flotilla activists held by Israeli forces. The activists, who came together from around the world to deliver aid and key medical supplies to Gaza, were released last week.
Following a Crawley Labour statement made on 1st August declaring support for the flotilla’s peaceful mission, the Freedom vessel was intercepted by Israel and all aboard were detained.
Outrage was widespread and immediate, leading to condemnation by people and organisations across the world – including from many Crawley Labour members. The captured activists were held for several days before being released.
Crawley-born journalist Richard Sudan was warmly-received by his family and well-wishers at Stansted Airport on Tuesday night.
Richard Sudan’s father Mark commented, saying: “Obviously he was tired from the sea journey and ordeal in an Israeli prison, but he’s otherwise safe, fit, in good spirits and happy to see us.”
Crawley Labour’s Executive maintains its support for the Freedom Flotilla’s humanitarian aims.
