I am sure most people will have been watching recent political events with a mixture of horror and outrage.

The Tory Party have inflicted chaos upon the country during the worst cost of living crisis in decades.  Millions are at risk of hunger, poverty and homelessness. Except we don’t have a functioning government. It imploded.

Boris Johnson is, almost, gone.

He was always unfit for office.

He has been responsible for lies, scandal and fraud on an industrial scale.

It makes no sense to me why someone so completely discredited thinks it’s okay to continue as Prime Minister for any period of time.  He should have gone to the Palace immediately and given his resignation to the Queen.

And now thought goes on to who will replace Johnson as Tory leader, and what an uninspiring choice that is.  Most of the contenders left with any shred of credibility (not many) aren’t even household names in their own households.

Despite this, I see Crawley’s Tory MP Henry Smith has managed to support Suella Braverman, who has to be one of the worst candidates on the list.  This is more evidence, if it were needed, of his incredibly flawed judgement.  Braverman has been one of the worst, certainly one of the most inept, Government Ministers that I can recall in my lifetime.

But this is about more than the person at the top, or the dismal record of our local MP.

We are twelve years into a Conservative government, and we’re all paying the price.

Britain, and Crawley, needs a fresh start.  And we aren’t going to get it from this parade of Tory non-entities, totally detached from reality.

It is vital we reboot our economy, re-energise our communities, and revitalise our public services.

In May’s local elections, Labour had a good result in Crawley, and in Southgate even more recently.  We’ve shown only Labour has the ideas, vision, and optimism that Britain needs to get back on track.

We need a General Election now.  There must be no further delay, this farce has to end and the electorate must give the final judgement.
