The new Town Hall building is continuing on schedule and on budget. The construction is nearly complete and the external cladding is underway. Panels have wooden coverings at present to protect them from damage in the short-term.
Exciting proposals for the entrance to the Town Hall are being finalised and will be made public very soon. This will be a significant element of the building and can just be seen to the left of the picture above. This will be the main public entrance and will face onto the new public square outside the building.
Marketing of the commercial space will start shortly as, although the building is not yet completed, it can take some time to secure a prestige organisation and make arrangements for their occupation. We will be announcing further details and ‘topping out’ the building once possible after Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
Development of the District Heat Network is well underway alongside the old Town Hall. This is delivering on a requirement of our Local Plan as well as helping to meet our Climate Change emergency obligations.
The benefits of the development in reducing the Council’s operating costs and increasing our income are getting nearer, bringing benefits to the Council taxpayer as well as delivering a key element in the redevelopment of this part of the Town centre.

Cabinet member for Planning and Economic Development
