Our Town Our Say

The West of Ifield campaign continues the fight to stop this unwanted development on our boundary. Crawley Labour has two active representatives on the seven person campaign committee – WSCC Cllr Alison Cornell and former CBC councillor (and Cabinet member for Planning) Peter Smith – both of whom make significant contributions to the campaign.

Labour run Crawley Borough Council have made their opposition to the proposals very clear – see this article by Labour Council Leader Cllr Michael Jones Build Housing in the right place

And Crawley Labour party have included manifesto commitments related to building on our borders. See pages 16 – 18 in their 2024 manifesto Crawley Labour Manifesto – see p16

In terms of the current situation the Horsham District Council draft Local Plan has been out to public consultation known as Reg 19 consultation. Crawley Labour campaigners made significant contributions to this including producing the core Transport responses and advising the committee.

We are now waiting for updates from Horsham District Council related to plan examination which is provisionally scheduled for late 2024.

And Homes England have previously indicated that they would submit an ‘outline’ planning application for the West of Ifield site but we do not have any information available as to the scope of the outline and/or the date it will be submitted.

Please complete our Ifield West survey, if you have not already done so. And you can contact us with questions, updates and/or suggestions by emailing peter.smith@crawleylabour.org.uk
